Golf

Our Willard C Byrd designed golf course at TIMBERLAKE Country Club is a picturesque layout trailing the shores of Lake Murray as it meanders through the Timberlake Plantation community.

From the tips the course measures 6,579 yards, and over 5,000 yards from the forward tees. The slope rating of 139 from the back tees and 119 from the forward tees reflects the challenge of Timberlake. The course mixes right and left doglegs, level and hilly fairways, and puts water into play on seven (7) of its 18 holes. Only two holes, numbers 10 and 18 are parallel so it pays to keep the ball on the fairways.

Hole #1 offers an easy introduction to the course.

This short par 4 hole has beautiful Lake Murray along the right side and a steep bank along the left. Keeping your tee shot in the fairway is a definite plus. You will have a short iron into a green that slopes to the right toward a deep greenside bunker. Putting can be difficult or simple depending on pin placement.

Hole #18 offers a view unmatched in the Midlands.

The course ends Timberlake's signature hole, a Par 5 that requires a blind tee shot for those attempting the reach the green in two shots. But beware as the green is protected by both bunkers and the lake, so going for a low score here is definitely a "high risk, high reward" scenario. But whatever the outcome, you will be rewarded with an expansive view of Lake Murray.

      Golf Instruction

Jimmy was born in Columbia, SC and graduated from Cardinal Newman HS.  After graduation Jimmy was recruited by the Minnesota Twins as a left-handed 1st baseman where he played for two years.  He got into golf to make ends meet and went from picking the range with a tube at LinRick at $3 an hour, to operating Weed Hill Driving Range for 30-plus years, to establishing Koosa Golf retail stores. Along the way, he developed his golf game, worked at various courses, and tested his skills on mini-tours. Jimmy is no stranger to Timberlake Country Club; he helped develop the Willard Byrd course back in the late 80's and is now leading the way to restoring the course to its former glory. When he's not on the course with maintenance team you'll find him either playing or teaching his beloved sport, OR playing table tennis.
